CHEC has an immediate opening for an English Teacher. Our institution is a professional learning community dedicated to high academic achievement for our students as well as high teacher standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and teach engaging, rigorous lessons
- Establish classroom routines and follow through consistently
- Develop effective lesson plans, materials, and assessments aligned with the District's academic standards
- With guidance, analyze assessment data and use data to develop tutoring plans and inform instruction
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure student mastery of standards
- Maintain close relationships with families, including phone calls and conferences
- Tutor students requiring extra help on a daily basis, and serve as an Advisor to students
- To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must have the following:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field
- Minimum two years full-time classroom experience as an English teacher, preferably in an urban setting
- Experience implementing guided and level reading instruction
- Outstanding and creative instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, strict, orderly classroom environment
- Demonstrated expertise in subject area and demonstrated student achievement results
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
- A belief that all students can learn at a high level and should be held to high academic standards
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to teens, peers and parents
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues as a positive, professional member of a team
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies
