Senior White House official visits CHEC to promote first National Lab Day
May 13, 2010

As part of President Obama's call to raise US students to the top of the pack in Science and Math achievement, Melody Barnes, Director of the President's Domestic Policy Council, mentored and engaged with students and teachers today at CHEC as they investigated the effects of exercise on cardiovascular function.  Ms. Barnes, like other members of the President's cabinet and senior staff worked alongside teachers, students and volunteers in schools across the country in a historic grassroots effort to bring hands-on learning activities to thousands of students and improve science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.  National Lab Day is a grassroots partnership between science and engineering societies and educators and was launched in response to President Obama’s call at the National Academy of Sciences last spring for all Americans to join the cause of elevating STEM education as a national priority.
